Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A mold-formed pottery figure of a Nubian man wearing a flowing shirt that is cinched at the waist with a knotted belt. The figure is shown in a seated position with outspread legs, a rounded belly, broad shoulders, and a wide neck. The visage is highly stylized, almost grotesque in its verism, with ovoid eyes, a broad nose, exaggerated cheek bones, furrowed brows, and full lips, all beneath rows of tight curls on his coiffure. Size: 2.625" W x 6.375" H (6.7 cm x 16.2 cm); 6.875" H (17.5 cm) on included custom stand.
