Roman, Imperial Period, Eastern Mediterranean, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A fine paste glass head of a male boasting a rich shade of cobalt blue and Classical features such as wide eyes, a broad nose, a thick moustache, and a short beard. Created by pressing glass into an open mold, the vibrant blue hue of this example was likely intended to mimic the color of rare and valuable lapis lazuli. Size: 1.3" L x 0.8" W (3.3 cm x 2 cm)
