Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st century BCE to 1st century CE. A millefiori bowl with sides that fold inward to form an elongated shape. The millefiori or mosaic technique is demonstrated with red and yellow dotting that is slightly raised above the rest of the exterior surface. The mosaic technique resulted in glass that Pliny the elder described as "eyes" due to the repeating two colored motif across the surface. The bowl sits on a slightly rounded base with a visible pontil scar on the bottom exterior. The interior of the bowl has a slight bump in the center. This is an interesting piece that shows off Roman mastery of glass shaping and artistry. Size: 6.125" L x 3.125" W x 2" H (15.6 cm x 7.9 cm x 5.1 cm)
