Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. Impressive and large table leg carved of fine-grain marble with bust and torso of a young god. Showing Bacchanalian attributes, he is depicted with ivy and long braids which fall upon his nude shoulders. Large rectangular pillar forms the reverse and terminates in a slightly flaring basin - possibly used as an altar. Additionally, the lower shoulder on each side was created using cutouts which allowed this to be set into a larger platform of some type. Size: 9.25" W x 17" H (23.5 cm x 43.2 cm); 20.5" H (52.1 cm) on included custom stand.
