Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. An exquisitely carved marble sculpture of a woman's youthful body, representing the goddess Venus (Aphrodite). The body is posed sensuously, with one hip out and an arm resting against it, a gentle curve to her stomach, and small, pert breasts. Pale, peach-colored deposits with hints of lavender are on the upper part of the body, emphasizing its ancient age. Venus , the goddess of love, desire, and sex, is always depicted as a gorgeous, youthful woman, the ideal of Roman beauty, as she is here. Carvings of the female form are much rarer than the male from this time period, making this a rare find. Size: 2.95" W x 4.35" H (7.5 cm x 11 cm); 7.4" H (18.8 cm) on included custom stand.
