Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A stunning hand-carved marble head of a youth presenting a round visage with petite, bowed lips, an elegantly straight nose, sunken, almond-shaped eyes with defined lids, full cheeks, and a prominent, straight brow. The ancient visage gazes austerely forward, framed by luscious, tightly-curled locks of hair pushed behind his ears. Given the uncarved verso, this piece likely came from a stele or relief. Presenting with a beautiful hue of creamy peach, this naturalistic sculpture grants us insight to a face one may have seen whilst meandering through the ancient streets of the Roman Empire. Size: 2.875" W x 5.5" H (7.3 cm x 14 cm); 8" H (20.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-Daryl G Kulok collection, New York, USA, acquired in the 2000s
