Description:

**Originally Listed At $1800**

Roman, Julio-Claudian Period, ca. 1st century CE. A sensitively modeled head of a youth or perhaps Eros (Roman counterpart - Cupid) with long, flowing, wavy hair, and delicate features, whose sculptor was clearly gifted with an ability to render 'living' flesh from marble. Notice how the finely delineated coiffure gracefully billows over the child's head, how those wavy locks frame the youth's forehead, and how that tranquil visage is carefully modeled with remarkably naturalistic features. Take a close look at those generously lidded almond-shaped eyes, his aquiline nose, full bow-shaped lips, and soft rounded chin. An enchanting depiction of the youthful love god of desire, with exquisite classicizing features that suggest it was created during the Julio-Claudian Period. Size: 5" W x 4.25" H (12.7 cm x 10.8 cm)
