Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A leaded bronze statuette of Mercury - Greek Hermes - depicted standing in contrapposto and holding his caduceus against his left shoulder. Gazing to his right, the ancient deity is nude, save for a lengthy drape that falls from his forearm and loosely covers his shoulders. As messenger of the gods, Mercury was a traveler who was never at rest, as indicated by the liberal remains of wings at the side of his cap or petasos. Size: 1.2" W x 3.3" H (3 cm x 8.4 cm)
