Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE; Europe, Neoclassical, ca. 19th century CE. A show stopping ring - a spectacular jasper intaglio inlaid in an antique 92% (equivalent to 22K+) gold band. The intaglio is engraved with a crouching nude man, a vessel on the ground before him. The beveled stone is held by thick gold prongs which also form the forelimbs and tails of the rams/deer and feline animals rising up from the shoulders and flanking the bezel. The thick shank tapers to the center of the band, the diameter and grandiose design of the ring is ideal for a large hand, possibly a thumb ring.   • Condition: Chips to intaglio stone near two prongs Striation / stable fissure across stone. Intaglio is tightly secure in bezel. Indentations and some nicks to gold, and tiny pin hole perforations to repoussé on bezel, but overall excellent and choice! Wearable!
