Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to early 5th century CE. A forged-iron blade of an elongated triangular form with a thick shoulder, a sharpened edge, and a narrow tang. The tang is inserted into a slender handle that is hand-carved from the bone of a cow or another ungulate. The handle bears an incised latticework pattern on the bottom for extra grip, layered rings along the midsection, and a stylized bust of a human on top. Size: 0.7" W x 10.6" H (1.8 cm x 26.9 cm); 10.75" H (27.3 cm) on included custom stand; length of blade: 5.55" L (14.1 cm).
