Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A set of 3 free-blown glass vessels from ancient Rome. First is a petite jar of olive-green hues with shallow ribs encircling the body. Next is a bottle formed from thick glass with a pair of deep grooves coursing around the body. The largest is a glass bottle with thin walls, a gently indented base, a corseted neckline, and a cylindrical spout. Size of largest: 5.1" W x 6.25" H (13 cm x 15.9 cm)

Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F. Simpson collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from 1970 to 2000

  • Condition: Repairs to body of bottle with thick walls as shown. Largest vessel has loss to top portion of neck as well as a few stable hairline fissures on body, making it very fragile. Petite jar is intact and very good. Nice rainbow iridescence throughout.
