Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A well-carved head of a woman, using the natural shape of the bone to create a long face and coiffure as well as a rounded headdress. The woman has large eyes, a straight nose, and a large mouth, with a crown-like headdress that indicates she is either a goddess or a woman of high status - possibly an emperor's wife. Comes with custom stand. Size: 1.9" L x 1.55" W x 2.4" H (4.8 cm x 3.9 cm x 6.1 cm); height on stand: 3.5" (8.9 cm).

Provenance: private New Jersey, USA collection, acquired over twenty years ago
