Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A pair of gold earrings comprised of 90% gold (equivalent to 21K+) of an identical sinuous design, each with a round, boss-like disc on one end and a curve with a looped terminal on the other. Roman women - especially of the upper classes - apparently adored earrings. Jewelry was particularly important to women in Roman society because it was legally their own property, independent of their husband's wealth, and they could use it as they saw fit. Size: 0.45" W x 0.8" H (1.1 cm x 2 cm); gold quality: 90% or the equivalent of 21K+; total weight: 5.6 grams

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection
