Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A beautiful and wearable ring comprised of a hand-carved, red-orange carnelian intaglio bearing the image of a standing female, perhaps representative of a goddess. The ovoid setting in which the intaglio is presented is formed from 96.6% gold (equivalent to 22K+) and features a twisted filigree periphery as well as miniscule gold granules applied above each terminal of the slender shank. An exquisite example of quality Roman artistry!
