Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A gorgeous and matching pair of gold earrings inlaid with red carnelian cabochons and beads dangling from the lower hoop. The main hoop for wearing through the ear lobe has a small opening on both, it is possible there was a clasp to secure these in place. The wine-red carnelians are placed in a gold sawtooth bezel, and the smaller hoop is joined to the verso, with the light orange carnelian bead suspended from a wire loop. Earrings like these would have been worn by high status women who would have treasured their jewelry - as this was some of the only private property elite women could own that was separate from her husband's assets. Size: 1.5" L x 0.8" W (3.8 cm x 2 cm); 3" H (7.6 cm) on included custom stand; gold quality: 85% (equivalent to 20K+); weight: 5.1 grams
