Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A fine collection of Classical jewelry components: two delicate earrings made from coiled strips of 83.3% (equivalent to 20K) gold, and two thin 83.3% (20K) gold sheets which may have been part of a medallion. The earrings are dainty and would have been worn by a Roman lady. The gold sheets are incredibly thin and could have been shaped and cut to cover a larger form or medallion. Size of large gold sheet: 1.75" W (4.4 cm); size of earrings: 0.5" W (1.3 cm); size of case: 5.125" L x 6.125" W x 1" H (13 cm x 15.6 cm x 2.5 cm); total weight of gold sheets: 0.5 grams; total weight of both earrings: 1.0 grams
