Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A set of 2 hand-built gold jewelry items: an earring and a ring. The earring is constructed from 94% gold (equivalent to 22K+) and features a lozenge-shaped body with raised bands delineating 4 petite areas of the body, and a slender ear wire emanates upwards from one corner. The larger piece is a coiled snake-form ring shaped from a single strip of 96.4% gold (equivalent to 22K+) with intricately incised scales, a tapered body and tail, and a diamond-shaped head in front of a slender hood; this snake is perhaps a cobra. • Condition: Both are wearable as shown, but earring could be fitted with a modern ear wire to increase comfortability. Minor flaws to ring and earring, with slight bending to ring and ear wire of earring, and petite indentations to body of earring, otherwise intact and very good. Great patina throughout. Ring has slight bending that affects the ring size.
