Roman, early Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE; Europe, ca. 19th to 20th century CE. A gorgeous gold ring of wearable form exhibiting a circular shank and an ovoid carnelian inlay. Incised above the beveled edges of the flat-topped carnelian is a left-facing mask, perhaps an actor's mask, with a set of plump lips and a pair of antennae-like projections emanating from atop the head. Size (ring): 0.26" L x 0.75" W x 0.79" H (0.7 cm x 1.9 cm x 2 cm); (carnelian): 0.24" L x 0.19" W x 0.07" H (0.6 cm x 0.5 cm x 0.2 cm); gold quality: 89.3% (equivalent to 21K+); weight: 3.2 grams; US ring size: 2.5
