Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A fine vial of a tall, slender form, free-blown from translucent glass of a soft sage-green hue. The vessel has a flat base with a rough pontil scar, a rectangular body with four uneven indentations, a cylindrical neck, and a thin, in-folded rim. Scattered areas of rainbow-hued iridescence imbue this vessel with an attractive presentation. A lovely example of utilitarian Roman artistry! Size: 1.1" W x 4.2" H (2.8 cm x 10.7 cm).

#135267

  • Condition: Minor abrasions to base, body, and neck, with light encrustations, and micro-bubbling within glass, otherwise intact and very good. Pontil mark on underside of base. A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown, while the absence of such a mark suggests that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time. Light earthen deposits and rainbow iridescence throughout.
