Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd century CE. A beautiful glass vessel created from semi-translucent yellow-green glass with a near-spherical body, a tubular neck that flares dramatically to a wide mouth, and a concave base with no sign of a pontil scar suggesting that it was mold-blown. The body displays dozens of swirling ribs coursing around the exterior, and faint areas of rainbow-hued iridescence complement its presentation. Size: 3.375" in diameter x 3.875" H (8.6 cm x 9.8 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Davis collection, Houston, Texas, USA acquired in 2013 from London Art Market

#140363

  • Condition: Intact. Some internal bubbles in the glass created when the glass was blown. No pontil scar. (A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown, while the absence of such a mark suggests that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time.) Some weathering film remains, and beautiful rainbow iridescence has developed over the ages.
