Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE. A beautiful mold-blown Roman glass unguent-holding bottle with a flat base and a slightly-rough pontil. The textured body exhibits eleven rows of stylized grapes, imbuing the exterior with an attractive bumpy appearance and feel. The indented shoulder leads upwards to a tubular neck and a flared spout which is folded inwards. The bottle is formed from a lovely semi-translucent yellow-green-hued glass, the color of which was quite popular during the height of the Roman Empire. The depiction of grapes may be symbolic of Bacchus, the Roman god of wine. Covered in brilliant areas of silvery and rainbow-hued iridescence, this is a stunning example of stylized glassware! Size: 2.5" W x 5.25" H (6.4 cm x 13.3 cm).
