Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st century CE. An elegant hand blown glass unguentarium, presenting a traditional teardrop shaped body with a gently pointed bottom, a cylindrical neck, and a folded lip. The glass possesses beautiful blue-green hues embellished with layers of golden and rainbow hued iridescence. A beautiful example most likely used for storing precious aromatic oils. Please note: Lucite stand in photos is not included. Size: 1.375" W x 4.25" H (3.5 cm x 10.8 cm)

Provenance: ex-Davis collection, Houston, Texas, acquired before 2013 from various auction houses in London and New York

  • Condition: Neck and rim repaired from multiple pieces, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor abrasions and encrustations to body and neck, with thick weathering film. Nice iridescence throughout.
