Description:

Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A glass tear drop vial of a very unusual form - tubular with a faceted lower end and somewhat flat base. Even more striking than this shape is the marvelous golden iridescence it presents along with areas of green, purple, and blue iridescence. Mourners would fill these small glass vessels with tears and place them with burial tombs as offerings symbolizing their grief and respect. Size: 5." in diameter x 2.5" H (12.7 cm x 6.4 cm)
