Description:

Roman, late Imperial Period, ca. 5th century CE. A free-blown goblet formed from transparent glass with a hemispherical body, a slightly everted rim, and a rounded base, all fused atop the stem of a flared foot. Pale areas of rainbow iridescence have formed across the surfaces. Glass goblets like this example were perhaps owned by wealthy Roman citizens who could afford finer materials like glass and bronze. Size: 2.875" W x 2.875" H (7.3 cm x 7.3 cm)

Provenance: ex-Royal Athena Galleries, New York City, New York, USA; ex-Christie's, London, May 1998
