Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE. An elegant perfume-dispensing vessel known as a sprinkler flask, free-blown from translucent glass of a pale sage-green hue. The body has a petite, concave foot beneath a piriform body, a tapered shoulder with a compressed neck, a funnel-form rim, and a lightly flared lip. The body is adorned with several vertical ribs which were formed by pressing the body against a patterned mold while the glass-blower formed its shape. The inside of the neck has a notable constriction ring meant to conservatively dispense scented oils and perfumes as well as mitigate the rapid evaporation of the contents. A great example of utilitarian Roman artistry covered in light silvery iridescence. Size: 3.1" W x 5.25" H (7.9 cm x 13.3 cm).
