Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A beautiful free blown glass jar of light green hues decorated with seven ribs. The spherical-shaped body sits upon a rounded base. Ribs rise from the base, gently curve, and taper toward the mid-section. The narrow tubular neck extends into a pronounced funnel mouth. Beautiful rainbow iridescence enhances the vessel as well. A gorgeous example of Roman glass! Size: 2.125" W x 2.875" H (5.4 cm x 7.3 cm)

  • Condition: Repairs to rim with three pieces. Pontil mark on base. A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown, while the absence of such a mark suggests that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed or wore away over time. Surface wear, abrasions, and minor nicks commensurate with age. Areas of earthen encrustation and silvery-rainbow iridescence.
