Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A stunning jar formed from beautiful, aubergine-hued glass to exhibit an apple-shaped body with a rounded shoulder, a narrow neck, a projecting lip, and a circular rim, all sitting upon a concave base. Applied vertical trails line the body, which is additionally adorned by pinched and protruding nodules, as a horizontal rib embellishes the rim. Note the shimmering iridescence that naturally embellishes the surface, imbuing the vessel with an elegant presentation evocative of the ancient world! Size: 3.2" Diameter x 3.2" H (8.1 cm x 8.1 cm)

  • Condition: Intact and excellent with nice weathering film and gorgeous iridescence. Pontil mark on underside of base. A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown, while the absence of such a mark suggests that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time.
