Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. late 3rd to 4th century CE. A beautiful free-blown jar made from a translucent, pale blue-green glass with a concave bottom and rough pontil scar, an apple-shaped body with a rounded shoulder, a squat neck, a collared rim with an out-folded rib, and a pair of applied undulating trail handles. Most of the exterior is covered in faint silvery iridescence, and the interior is enveloped in fiery layers of rainbow-hued iridescence. A gorgeous example with well-aged patina! Size: 4.5" W x 5" H (11.4 cm x 12.7 cm).

  • Condition: Area of repair to rim with some small loss and light adhesive residue along break lines. Surface wear and abrasions commensurate with age, some stable hairline fissures along neck near repaired area, small nicks to handle tips and base, with light roughness across most surfaces. Nice earthen deposits as well as great silvery and rainbow iridescence throughout.
