Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE. A free-blown, translucent glass beaker of a pale green, near-colorless hue with a petite footed base and rough pontil scar, a gradually-expanding body with a pair of thin rigaree trails, a deep interior cavity, and a flared rim. Brilliant areas of fiery rainbow-hued iridescence complement the vessel's soft color in a palette of amethyst, sapphire, citrine, emerald, and ruby colors. Size: 3.5" W x 4.5" H (8.9 cm x 11.4 cm).

For a similar, slightly smaller example without rigaree trails, please see "Solid Liquid: Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Islamic Glass." Fortuna Fine Arts, Ltd., New York, 1999, p. 71, fig. 125.
