Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd Century CE. A gorgeous Roman unguentarium with rigaree that delicately ribbons down each slender side. This is a free-blown double unguentarium that is composed of glass, fading from light green to a deeper blue-green with iridescence throughout. Vessels with conjoined containers like this were used for holding two types of scented oils or perfumes for Roman women to apply. This elegant unguentarium is a beautiful example of delicate Roman artistry with glass. Size: 2" W x 4.5" H (5.1 cm x 11.4 cm); 5.5" H (14 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Light abrasions across the exterior surface. A crack across the lower right. A chip on the right trail handle top. Pontil scar on the bottom. A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown, while the absence of such a mark suggests that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time. Some encrusted earthen deposits. Overall, very nice with rainbow iridescence throughout.
