Description:

Rome, Imperial, ca. 1st to 4th CE. A remarkable Roman candlestick unguent comprised of green glass and boasting truly stunning iridescence of golden and rainbow hues. The ancient vessel presents a bell-shaped body and an elongated neck that gently tapers to a flared and rolled rim. This design was made to minimize the evaporation of precious liquids like perfumes or oils, and would have played an important role in someone's toilette. A breathtaking example from the ancient Roman world! Size: 2.625" W x 8.625" H (6.7 cm x 21.9 cm)

Provenance: private San Diego, California, USA, collection, acquired from the 1980s to 2000s
