Description:

Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. Wow! This vessel is quite a gem - created via a complicated process involving gradually blowing the glass into a mold and then repositioning it to create the basket weave-like pattern comprised of bands of slightly concave oblong depressions that interweave with one another. The glass is beautifully preserved, of a blue-green color and still wonderfully translucent, as it would have been when first made by a Roman artisan. Size: 5.05" W x 1.75" H (12.8 cm x 4.4 cm)

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection; ex-private collection of Martin J. Wunsch, New York, USA, 1980s; purchased from Christopher Sheppard, United Kingdom
