Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A fine mold-formed amulet formed from nearly-opaque glass of a cobalt-blue hue. The amulet features the face of an imposing man on both sides - perhaps that of Jupiter (Greek Zeus) or Neptune (Greek Poseidon) - with a bushy beard, large almond-shaped eyes, a slender nose, and a neatly arranged coiffure. A fascinating example of ancient Roman finery! Size: 0.6" W x 0.7" H (1.5 cm x 1.8 cm).

Provenance: private Alabama, USA collection; ex-Roy Green collection
