Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A finely-wrought, gilded bronze fibula in the crossbow style. The cast bronze has fine details, including a pattern that looks like the surface of a tightly woven rope that runs up the full length of the brooch. The top of the crossbow has a series of well-drilled perforations, giving it a delicate, openwork appearance. The arms and top of the cruciform shape terminate in domes with nipple-like projections. Overall, this brooch is an example of excellent craftsmanship that has survived the years very well! Comes with custom stand. Size: 1.15" L x 2" W x 3.05" H (2.9 cm x 5.1 cm x 7.7 cm); height on stand: 4" (10.2 cm).
