Description:

Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st century CE. A beautiful ring containing an oval eye agate stone that is finely engraved with the head of a man in profile and facing left, depicted with short-cropped curly hair and a serious countenance presenting steadfast eyes and an aquiline nose. The convex oval stone is mounted in an attractive modern 18K gold setting comprised of a plain followed by double-rope border with a double wire shank tastefully adorned by arrow-like motifs housing pairs of granules on either side, the two gold wires of the shank branching apart to further surround the stone - all in all providing a lovely complement to the intaglio. US ring size 1.5 - perhaps intended as a pinky ring or for a child. Size of stone: .625" L x .5" W (1.6 cm x 1.3 cm)
