Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A fine sterling silver pendant setting inlaid with a bronze Roman coin, ancient glass fragment, and topaz, and aquamarine stones. The surface of the once semi-transparent aqua-blue glass fragment has developed wondrous layer of brilliant rainbow-hued iridescence. The topaz and aquamarines are faceted, cut in modern times and set into bezels to flank the top of the glass fragment, and above these components is a circular bronze coin. The coin features an emperor facing right on the obverse, and reverse depicts 2 soldiers standing either side of a standard. The pendant is strung on a modern cord with a lobster clasp as a wearable piece. Size of pendant: 2" L x 0.75" W (5.1 cm x 1.9 cm); cord: 21" L (53.3 cm); silver quality: 92.5%; weight: 7 grams
