Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A lovely hand-carved carnelian intaglio of warm red-orange hues depicting a left-facing bull with tall horns and a muscular body. The intaglio is circular in form with beveled sides and set within the wide bezel of a modern high-quality sterling silver ring. A wonderful and wearable example of fine Roman craftsmanship! Size (ring): 0.8" W x 0.9" H (2 cm x 2.3 cm); size (intaglio): 0.325" W x 0.3" H (0.8 cm x 0.8 cm); quality of silver: 96.5%; total weight: 6.3 grams; US ring size 8.
