An ancient Roman carnelian intaglio etched with Bacchus (Greek Dionysus), set in an antique 21K+ gold ring setting as a wearable piece of jewelry. The semi-translucent orange stone depicts Bacchus facing right, holding the thyrsus in one hand and a kantharos vessel in the other. He is dressed in robes and a helmet. Size of bezel setting: 0.8" L x 0.5" W (2 cm x 1.3 cm); band opening: 0.75" Diameter (1.9 cm); US ring size 9; metal quality: 89.9% to 91.29% (equivalent to 21K+) gold, 5.84% to 6.4% silver, 2.8% to 3.7% copper; weight: 9.1 grams

  • Condition: Minor pitting and dark toning to the ring band from use, but overall excellent and wearable condition. The band may have been resized with a very faint weld line around one shoulder. Intaglio is intact and motif is very sharp.
