Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A dazzling necklace of a wearable form constructed with dozens of vermilion-hued carnelian stones as well as glass beads in a plethora of colors. The intricate accessory features carnelian beads in spherical, cylindrical, seed-form, and faceted trapezoidal shapes that are interspersed with tubular and cylindrical glass beads of solid, feathered, zigzagged, or millefiori designs. Capped with a modern gold-plated loop and lobster clasp, this is a gorgeous composition meant to accentuate any outfit. Size (necklace): 32.25" L (81.9 cm); (central white bead): 0.5" W (1.3 cm)

  • Condition: Strung in modern times and wearable as shown. Carnelian and glass beads are ancient, and stringing and gold-plated components are modern. Minor nicks and pitting to some beads, otherwise intact and very good. Smooth patina across stone beads and nice iridescence on most glass beads.
