**Originally Listed At $250**

Late Roman to early Byzantine, ca. 4th to 6th century CE. An impressive 92.9% silver signet ring with an incised double headed eagle and inscription. The flat face is set on an elegant shank. The face is comprised of two incised borders that encircle the inscription and the eagle. This double headed eagle motif is a powerful and ancient symbol that appears in many cultures and as early as the Bronze Age. In the context of the Roman and Byzantine empire, the two heads represent looking towards the east and west, signifying complete control and unification between the two parts of the empire. This ring is an important signet that may have been used as a stamp or seal for documents. A wearable and stunning accessory from an ancient empire.
