Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE; Near East, Persia / Byzantium, ca. 7th to 12th century CE. A lovely pair of cast gold ornaments, a spool shaped object and a granulated bead. The capsule shaped bead is 63% to 70% gold and has a domed top with granulation and beading across the surface. The 69% gold hoop may be a type of ear reel, presenting as a thick band lined with decorative granules along one of its flared peripheries. The ancient adornment is corseted at the midsection and a petite loop protrudes inward from the periphery opposite the granules. Size of spool: 1" Diameter x 0.5" W (2.5 cm x 1.3 cm); gold quality: 63% to 70.7% (equivalent to 15K to 16K+); total weight: 10.4 grams
