Description:

Eastern Roman, Holy Land, late Roman Imperial to early Byzantine Period, ca. 5th to 7th century CE. A cast-copper figure of a semi-nude woman standing with bared breasts while grasping the top of her robe which is lined with several circular impressions, perhaps intended for inlaid decorations. Her poignant face is turned slightly to her left and exhibits petite eyes, broad nostrils, full lips, and a tied-back coiffure. This effigy was perhaps a votive offering. Size: 0.79" L x 0.87" W x 2.70" H (2 cm x 2.2 cm x 6.9 cm)

Provenance: private Coral Springs, Florida, USA collection; ex-Alfred Byrd Graf estate, United States, acquired before 2001
