Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A bronze brooch with a curved, smooth body to accommodate leather or a large wad of cloth. The top and bottom have decorative knob motifs as well as an intact pin and catch plate mechanism behind; there are remains of gilding. A fibula this large and beautiful would have belonged to an elite member of society. Comes with custom stand. Size: 0.7" W x 3.8" H (1.8 cm x 9.7 cm); height on stand: 4.75" (12.1 cm).
