Description:

Roman, early Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. A beautiful bronze situla with a planar base, a tapering body with a lightly-rounded shoulder, a deep interior cavity, and a rolled rim. The shoulder is adorned with a repeating register of stippled concentric semicircular motifs within two pairs of horizontal striations, and below is a register of additional stippling alternating between vertical lines and mirrored triangles in an hourglass-like form. Fine layers of green, brown, russet, and citrine patina envelop the interior and exterior surfaces. Size: 4.8" W x 4.625" H (12.2 cm x 11.7 cm).

Minor nicks to rim, body, and base, with softening to some stippled motifs, and slight warping to overall form. Light earthen deposits and fabulous patina throughout. Old inventory label on base.
