Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A sweet and petite cast bronze simpulum used for libation offerings with a Pontius Pilate prutah coin at the top of the handle, with a round bowl that sits on a concave round foot and presents a decorative handle with a round terminal and intriguing contours perhaps representing anthropomorphic elements. The bronze has attained a green and golden patina with white mineral deposits across the surface. Size: 2.25" in diameter x 4.125" H (5.7 cm x 10.5 cm)

Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection, acquired before 2000; purchased from The Archaeological Center in Jaffa, Israel, owned by scholar Robert Deutsch
