Roman Empire, ca. 236 to 237 CE. Minted in Rome, under the SC (approval of the Senate). Gorgeously toned and well struck sestertius of the emperor Maximinus. Obverse: MAXIMINVS PIVS AVG GERM, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Maximinus I right. Reverse: SALVS AVGVSTI, S C in exergue, Salus seated left, feeding out of patera serpent rising from altar to left. RIC (Roman Imperican Coinage) 85. Size: 27mm, 20.4 grams.
