Description:

Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st century CE. A solid bronze figure depicting a nude youth, possibly a youthful Bacchus - the boy presented in a seated/crouching position, holding a cluster of grapes in his raised right hand, and a scepter-like object in his left hand. His genitalia are exposed - suggestive of virility resulting from Dionysian-inspired revelry (as in 'be fruitful and multiply'). His head is turned slightly to toward the cluster of grapes in his right hand, and he presents fine facial features and a wavy coiffure. A beautiful piece, in excellent condition, with nice green patina. Size: 2.125" H (5.4 cm); 3.125" H (7.9 cm) on included custom stand.
