Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE. A cast bronze finial in the form of a prancing horse. The patina is a beautiful grey-green and does not obscure any of the details of the horse. Finials like this one served as decorations on vessels, usually attached mechanically rather than cast. Horse motifs were signs of power and military prowess, symbolic of the god Neptune as well as the Roman legions. Size: 1.75" W x 1.7" H (4.4 cm x 4.3 cm); 2.5" H (6.4 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex-private T.S. collection, San Diego County, California, USA, acquired between 25 and 40 years ago
