Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE. A cast-bronze plaque showcasing the effigy of a murmillo (also mirmillo or myrmillo) class gladiator covered in matte layers of brown and green patina. The left-facing fighter is clad in lightweight armor that provides both protection and mobility, with a manica (arm guard), greaves, boots, and a mormylos (crested helmet) while wielding a gladius behind a rectangular tower shield. Murmillo figures like this example were typically presented opposite a Thracian fighter wearing similar armor and were meant as a child's toy. Size: 1.6" W x 2.875" H (4.1 cm x 7.3 cm)
