Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. This is a tall, thin stand for oil lamps, bronze cast in the shape of a tree with three branches extending outward to hold the lamp and three roots at the base also extending outward to support the stand. There are small carved details of new branches along the length of the piece. This is a fine and rare form for an essential Roman household good. Size: 12.8" L x 4.25" W (32.5 cm x 10.8 cm).
